How to get your Provisional Appraiser's License in CT
What you need to do (New CT Requirements):
- Provisional Appraiser:
75 hours of coursework, including:
- Basic Appraisal Principles (30 hours)
- Basic Appraisal Procedures (30 hours)
- 15-hour National USPAP (Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice)
- Certified Residential License: 200 hours of total coursework, plus at least an Associate's Degree or college-level equivalent. Also needed are 2,500 hrs of field experience. Courses to choose from are:
- Residential Market Analysis & Highest and Best Use (15 hours)
- Residential Appraiser Site Valuation and Cost Approach (15 hours)
- Residential Sales Comparison & Income Approaches (30 hours)
- Residentail Report Writing and Case Studies (15 hours)
- Certified General License: 300 hours of total coursework, plus at least a Bachelor's Degree or college-level equivalent

Once you have your license...
You need Continuing Education (Post-Licensing) Classes:
Every two years, Appraisers are required to complete 28 hours of coursework in order to maintain their license.
The next cycle runs from May 1, 2010 to April 30, 2012.
- Seven (7) of those hours are for the USPAP update course
- 3 hours for the Mandatory CT Law Update course
- The final 18 hours for electives you can take online or on-site.
